The concept envisions the transformation of key spaces and stage technologies while preserving and further developing the historic character of the listed building. The aim is to merge contemporary solutions with heritage values — creating a theatre that naturally and authentically bridges tradition and modernity.
The project introduces a new quality of theatrical spaces: technically advanced, functional, safe, and fully accessible, while strengthening the unique sense of place defined by the building’s history and identity.
The modernization of the auditorium and stage technology will open up new artistic possibilities and ensure the highest standards for theatrical production. The renewed theatre will become a significant landmark on Kraków’s cultural map.
The new opening of Teatr Bagatela also includes a redesigned entrance zone — a tall, multi-level foyer seamlessly connected to the street and the inner courtyard. This space symbolically opens the theatre to the city and invites interaction with its urban life.
The garden-like courtyard will be transformed, without compromising the heritage value of the historic tenement, into a multi-level, terraced public space offering a new and attractive perspective on Kraków’s historic center. It will function not only as a backstage area for the theatre, but also as a new, open fragment of the city’s public realm.
