Revitalization of the Pole Mokotowskie Park in Warsaw

In addition to its natural value, the Pole Mokotowskie Park is a social and cultural phenomenon. It is a place open to diversity and free, where the way of functioning is determined by the inhabitants themselves through their activities. It has been shaped in equal measure by the top-down actions of designers as by the bottom-up social process.

The proposed concept for the development of the park is based on several initial assumptions. One of them is the assumption that the park is a place for everyone: people, but also plants, animals, elements; at all times of the day, week, year. Important goals of the project are to improve the relationship at the interface of the park with the urban and natural environment and to increase the participation of sustainable, circular processes in the functioning of the park.

On the natural side, project activities are aimed at strengthening the network of natural zones, expanding and connecting them, introducing the form of the biocenotic landscape, supporting biodiversity.

In areas serving the human being, the concept includes a series of interventions that reinforce existing and guide new qualities. Thematic Pavilions of the Elements; the Air Pavilion, whose hallmark will be balloons indicating the state of purity of the air, the Water Pavilion, whose glass roof-cup will collect rainwater and offer a number of water attractions are the main themes of the park

The new element will be the Circular Avenue surrounding the park and connecting all its main activities and attractions. Next to the walking path there will be a trail for skaters and runners, used for cross-country skiing in winter.

The site of the former MPO base at the National Library will remain a large meadow and will be surrounded by a wreath of ornamental trees. This is the largest of the park interiors — the Grand Salon will serve as today for different types of visitor activities and occasionally larger mass events.
