DISTINCTION FOR WXCA

The new headquarters of the Academy of Music will be located in the immediate vicinity of many cultural institutions and scientific research centres. The designed Academy complex will be located at the top of the axis of Paderewski Street, making it an urban and functional complement to the city fabric of the inner city of Bydgoszcz.

As determined by the Local Spatial Planning Plan, the facility will be located between the existing water tank and the designed ring road. These two elements have become the basis of the development of the concept of facilities structured around a friendly space near water. The whole complex was divided into 3 main functional zones: a concert zone, an educational zone, and an administration and residential zone, each of which are facing the courtyard. The spacious and glazed ground floors enable users of specific buildings to have constant contact with the common space between them. At the same time, the composition of body of the buildings also forms a buffer zone between the ring road and the courtyard area, also retaining the representative character of the facility from the street.

The choice of materials – brick and concrete – arises from the desire to create a friendly atmosphere for the academic building that relates to the nature of the prevailing structures in Bydgoszcz.
